In today age it's no secret that our brains are being swamped with new information each day. Today's society demands that we learn more in less time. If you're like me, most of the learning you do comes through reading. So why invest most of your time reading when you can accelerate your reading speed with little effort. Speed reading is becoming very trendy in recent years due to its undeniable advantage. You will be able to read text in a fraction of the time that it would take a person that didn't practices speed reading techniques. In this article I will give 3 very helpful tips to improve your speed reading skills quickly.

Use your fingers to help you read.

Place three fingers (index, middle, and ring) directly under the text to be read. Start by moving the finger across the text in a smooth fashion. Make certain you don't stop; the movement has to be continuous across the text. Once you finish with one line just drop down and go to the next. Make sure your eyes are following the speed of your fingers. This technique will train your eyes to move smoothly across the text, when trying to speed up your reading.

Center yourself:

Before you start speed reading, make sure to find a silent and peaceful place to do so. You need to get rid of all outside distractions. Make sure you only focus on the reading material. That way, your brain will soak up more information faster. This is especially true when you're reading material that requires a lot of concentration to process all of the information, when you need to memorize the material in depth.

Avoid re reading

One of the major factors in speed reading is to read text only once, avoid reading the same text numerous times. If you feel like you're missing too many words simply slow down your fingers to make sure you're getting all of the words. At first it will take some getting used to, but keep trying and adjusting your speed to make sure you only read text once.

These techniques can be very useful when looking to improve your reading speed. I advise being patient with this process though. Remember that this is something new and it does take time to use to these methods. But I can guarantee you that they work if you put them to practice and stick with it.
