Now that autumn is upon us, with the sun lower in the sky and the leaves turning brown on the trees, Prontopass Driving School have compiled their Top 10 Tips for driving for the season.
- Use your demisters and heaters to keep your windows clear.
- Keep your windscreen washer reservoir topped up and use it and your wipers regularly to ensure a clear view.
- Keep your sunglasses in the car – it may not be summer but you may still need them.
- Look out for people in dark clothing – (why are most winter coats made in dark colours?!)
- Beware of pedestrians with umbrellas – have they seen you?
- Be aware of the sun dazzling people – you, other drivers, motorcyclists or pedestrians.
- Use your lights. Sidelights when it’s even a bit dull, dipped headlights when visibility is reduced and fog lights when visibility is greatly reduced. Remember to turn them off when not needed though.
- When it is wet, remember your stopping distance is doubled, so double the distance you keep from the car in front – 2 seconds becomes 4 seconds.
- When it is really wet, slow down to avoid aquaplaning through puddles or soaking pedestrians.
- Check tyres for sufficient tread depth (1.6mm legal minimum but 3mm recommended minimum) and tyre pressures when cold to maintain grip with a possible slippery surface.
Prontopass Driving School offers driving lessons to learners of all ages in Ormskirk, Southport and surrounding area. Visit our website for more information on driving lessons in Ormskirk and Southport
